Aging and Faith
As a chaplain working with older adults, my daily work covers issues of aging—from caregiving to dementia to end of life choices and beyond. As the Baby Boomers age, these topics will become more and more a part of the life of all congregations. I look forward to collaborating with congregations in a range of ways, helping to equip leaders, preach, teach, and consult on issues of aging and faith.
Caregiving Classes
Millennials and Gen X adults are increasingly being asked to step into caregiving roles as their parents and family age. In a 4-6 week format I work with younger adults to talk through the practical, spiritual, psychological, ethical, and social issues associated with caregiving, with a goal of preparing them to be the healthiest caregivers they can be.
Family Coaching
Outlining our values and preferences about the end of life can be one of the greatest gifts we give our loved ones. It is best accomplished long before folks think they ‘need’ to know it. My experience working with family systems can help lower anxiety and make tough conversations more productive.
Elder + Deacon Training
Let’s face it, visiting people in the hospital or in their homes can be intimidating…even for trained clergy! I’d love to work with your Board of Deacons, Session, or other church leaders to help equip them for the work of visiting and caring for the members of your church who are in need of special care.
Preaching
Folks in our congregations are looking to hear sermons that speak to the real-life situations they’re facing. The next time you need a guest preacher, I’d love to fill your pulpit. I’m happy to preach within the lectionary or maintain a series your church is studying. I am also available for bridge interims, sabbatical coverage, and longer term worship leadership needs.
Retreats
Is your Women’s Group looking for a fresh voice this year? Or maybe your family retreat needs a little punching up? I have extensive retreat leadership experience and can draw from a vast well of past resources. I’m also happy to write original content just for you.
